Success @WESTSIDE 2017
So it's that time of the year again, Bridge 2 Business finishes off the term in style at Citizen M, for yet another fantastic WESTSIDE event.
Over 100 students from various regions and colleges came along and participated in our annual event of the year, on Wednesday 26th April 2017.
An enjoyable, fun packed, educating and rewarding day for students who got the opportunity to get involved in various guest speaker talks, competitions, market stalls, ice-breaker challenges and workshops that were happening throughout the day. The colleges that were involved at this year's event include: Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire, Edinburgh and Ayrshire.
With a great emphasis around entrepreneurial topics and subjects to get the participants thinking - we had over 10 entrepreneurs involved in workshops and presentations, alongside a fantastic host: Dee Bleakley and over 12 market stallholders from Princes Trust, Jobs, Business Gateway, Transmit Start-Up, Incube Renfrewshire, Scottish Institute for Enterprise and of course not forgetting many of our young future entrepreneurs of Scotland, who were all trading to sell various products and services on the day.
Products and services such as jewellery, personalised photo-frames, luxury soaps, glitter wine glasses, cakes and art work on canvases and tote bags.
One important element of our event was the 'Reinvent the Wheel' competition which involved students putting forward a number of fantastic business ideas that aim to reinvent a product or service. With over 20 impressive entries our judges - Evelyn McDonald CEO of Scot Edge, Steven Reynolds and Lewa Thomas - had a hard time selecting the most fruitful and impressive ones!
Later, the 4 chosen candidates were asked to come on stage and join us at the Live Q&A, helping both the judges and the audience understand more about their business ideas.
The candidates included Aidan Banerjee, Malgorzata Rog, Carole Kongolo and MOYA (Minds of Young Artists), who pitched and shared more information about their vision, why they want to achieve and how they plan to execute next steps.
The 1st winner, selected by the judging panel, was Aidan Banerjee from Glasgow Clyde College, who aims to develop an app to replace student cards. Aidan won a fantastic free 3-month incubator space at The Loft, to support him to bring his idea to life!
The 2nd winner, selected by the audience, was MOYA (Minds of Young Artists) a student-led Graphic Design team, who market and promote student artwork, throughout Scotland. Currently, they are based at West College Scotland, Paisley Campus - but aim to expand to further educational institutions in the near future. MOYA won an amazing gadget - an iPad Mini 4 that will help them manage their sales, customers, products and much more!
