Success at FRESH START 2017

  • Bridge 2 Business kick off the new academic year term with a FRESH START

Bridge 2 Business ran a 'successful' enterprise event on Wednesday 20th September 2017, through Glasgow city centre,at an incubator Clockwise. Over 160 students came along from various regions to participate and celebrate the new academic year in style!

An enjoyable, educating and rewarding day for students who were all given the opportunity to get involved in various entrepreneurial talks, competitions, workshops and Q&A sessions throughout the day.

Bridge 2 Business host many events throughout the year for the students, giving them opportunities to volunteer, be mentored by entrepreneurs and carry out various projects related to videography and photography. Students also show great initiative and interest in projects either its paid orvoluntary work - they are just grateful for a bit of experience and networking!

So on the day, various entrepreneurial topics and subjects were covered at the event, to get the participants thinking- we had over 8 entrepreneurs involved in workshops and presentations, alongside a fantastic host: Anna Devitt and over 10 market stall holders from PrincesTrust, Jobs, Business Gateway, Transmit Start-Up, Grameen, Entrepreneurial Spark, Sporting Chance and of course not forgetting many of our young future entrepreneurs of Scotland, who were all trading to sell various products and services on the day. Offering products and services such as jewellery, personalised gifts, frames, IT networking service.

We also had West College Scotland's social enterprise MOYA (Minds of Young Artists) selling their art work on prints, canvases and tote bags. MOYA were previous Bridge 2 Business event winners in the pitching competition.

One important element of our event was the 'What's your Business Idea' competition which involved students putting forward several fantastic business ideas that aim to innovate a fantastic product or service.

With over 50 impressive entries our judges -Fynn Elkington of FoSho Video, Kate Caven from Kids Creative Designs and Jordon Reid from Ngage Technology - had a hard time selecting the most impressive ones!

Later, the 3 chosen candidates were asked to come on stage to give a 5-minute pitch, helping both the judges and the audience understand more about their business ideas.

The candidates included Andrew, Jessica and Lewis, college students who pitched and shared more information about their vision, what they want to achieve and how they plan to execute the next steps.

The 1st winner, selected by the judging panel, was Jessica from Glasgow Kelvin College, who aims to create an accessory for a Vaping Kit. Jessica won a fantastic free 1-week incubator space with Clockwise plus two free tickets to attend the Summit Event through in Edinburgh, to support and bring her idea to life!

The 2nd winner, selected by the judges again, was Andrew from Glasgow Kelvin College, who is looking to start up a product based business creating Scottish themed miniatures and gifts for the tourist industry. Andrew won a brilliant prize with Smart Enterprise Scotland which includes mentoring support from an entrepreneur and two free tickets to attend the Summit Event through in Edinburgh.

The FAILURE to SUCCESS event was a huge SUCCESS considering the venue was completely packed out and we received some great feedback from our students, lecturers and support agencies towards the end of the day and all captured on camera!

Filming student Garry Bennett, from West College Scotland, Clydebank says: "The Bridge 2 Business event really helped me to see that anyone can achieve their goal of starting theirown business. Getting the opportunity to talk to like-minded people and entrepreneurs who have achieved success in business, has really gave me confidence for the future".
