Enterprising Students Launch - Afternoon Session
Ayrshire College in partnership with Bridge 2 Business hosted a launch event on Wed Nov21 to unveil the Enterprising Students Grant, which is designed to inspire and support students into Enterprise.
The event took place in two parts, with a morning session attended by local employers, support organisations and staff from Ayrshire College. Principal, Heather Dunk OBE welcomed guests and outlined the plans for the grant programme, which offers students a comprehensive mentoring support programme and the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to £5,000.
The afternoon event saw over 500 students across all three campuses attend a series of workshops hosted by Guest speakers. Emma Frew, Director of Breeze Connection and Ryan Leslie owner of Gymmies Kitchen co-hosted a workshop with Lucy Thomson, owner of Coach Lucy to share their journey with developing an idea into an enterprise. Lucy Thomson said, "I would encourage any student to start talking about their ideas today, as there is so much incredible support and advice available. It is never too soon to start working on your business idea."
Award winning Comedian, Chris Henry inspired students with his Journey as an Entrepreneur. He captured the audience with his insightful journey in building the Chris Henry brand, and had the students laughing at his witty one liners. He shared some advice including "Don't be afraid to make mistakes as they will be your best lessons. And, don't ask for other people's crumbs - build your own cake!"
Kenny Blair,Director of Buzzworks gave an insightful talk of his beginnings when starting out as an entrepreneur and gave his top tips which has seen him create a £20million business.
SallyJohnstone and Amanda Craig highlight the opportunities available with Firstport for any students interested in starting up a social enterprise.
Level 6 Events Students hosted Enterprise Pop up Cafe
Enterprise was certainly the buzzword of the day, with further activity including an Enterprise Mall which hosted support partners, Business Gateway, Firstport and Prince's Trust who were offering one 2 one advice and support. Level 6 Events students hosted an Enterprise Pop Up Café and raised over £100 for the British Heart Foundation by selling raffle tickets and collecting donations for their baked goods.
