Students Win 5 out of 9!

Six students from partner colleges of the University of the Highlands and Islands were amongst the finalists in the 2016 Inverness College UHI run Business Competition. Shortlisted from over 130 applicants, students were able to pitch their business idea to a panel of expert judges for a chance to win a share of the £8,000 prize fund.

Organised by CREATE at Inverness College UHI with the support of various sponsors such as Bridge 2 Business, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish & Southern Energy Networks, Business Gateway and the University of the Highlands and Islands, the annual competition allows students from Highlands and Islands, Moray and Perthshire the opportunity to win funding to help them go on to develop their idea.

The competition encourages and supports students to develop their enterprising skills and attributes by developing a business idea, presenting their idea to a panel of judges and 'making it happen'.

Five of the nine prizes available were won by students including Top Prize and Best Student Business, totalling £2,500. Both of these prizes were won this year by Rachel Parker who is currently studying for a BSc (Hons) in Marine Science at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS).

Sam Faircliff, Managing Director of Cairngorm Brewery, was the evening's keynote speaker and engaged the audience with her tales of a real enterprising success story in the Highlands.

Congratulations to all our winners!
