Scottish Co-op’s more likely to survive their first five years
- Scotland’s 573 co-operatives have a combined turnover of £2.4 billion
- Scottish co-operatives are far more resilient with a survival rate of 97%, 71% and 65% after the first, third and fifth years of existence respectively
- Co ops make a difference to people’s lives right around the world
- Every year hundreds of organisations across the UK work together to promote co-ops during Co-operatives Fortnight
In an Article published in Scottish Business News Network, research in The UK Co-operative Economy 2018_ reveals that just 46 per cent of Scottish companies survive the difficult early years, while 65% of co-operatives are still going strong. Across the UK as a whole, the survival rate of co-operatives is even stronger at 80%.
And as we're currently in the middle of Co-Operative Fortnight 2018, it seems like a great time to be asking why more companies don't go down the Co-operative route.
